A Nightmare On Elm Street Tops Friday Box Office

Warner Bros.' remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street” grossed an estimated $15.8 million on the first day to finish on top of the box office yesterday.

It is expected that the film might make producers richer by more than $30 million.

Jackie Earle Haley plays the role of evil Freddy Krueger in the movie, which is the sixth remake of the long-running horror franchise. The R-rated film is directed by well-known music video director Samuel Bayer.

"Furry Vengeance" a family comedy co-produced by Summit Entertainment, Participant Media and Imagenation Abu Dhabi earned $1.7 million on the first day itself.

DreamWorks Animation's 3D adventure "How To Train Your Dragon" grossed $2.6 million to take the cumulative earning to $184.2 million. Fox’s produced "Date Night" learned $2.5 million yesterday to take its total earning to $68.5 million. Jennifer Lopez starrer "The Back-Up Plan" made $2.4 million yesterday. The film is produced by CBS Films. Warners' comics-based thriller "The Losers" came fifth with $1.9 million in its kitty.
