Google VP Rejects Android Accusations

Google’s Vice President of Engineering and head of Android, Andy Rubin, has rejected reports that the company’s hugely popular Android mobile phone operating system is becoming less open, claiming that the Android is as open as ever. Writing on the Android Developers blog, Rubin says “recently, there’s been a lot of misinformation in the press about Android and Google’s role in supporting the ecosystem. I’m writing in the spirit of transparency and in an attempt to set the record straight”.



Cisco Boss Pledges to Fix Stumbling Company

The veteran chief executive of Cisco Systems Inc., John Chambers, has said in a companywide email to his employees that the California-based company has lost its focus and is lacking in discipline and it is high time that steps should be taken to overhaul its operations. "We have disappointed our investors and we have confused our employees," said Chambers, who is the head of Cisco's chief since 1995. Though Chambers defended his strategy, he noted that Cisco would "make a number of targeted moves" and "address with surgical precision what we need to fix in our portfolio."



World's Most Powerful Rocket Falcon Heavy to Liftoff In 2012

The era of NASA’s space shuttle is nearing its completion and SpaceX is erring up to take over. Elon Musk, the founder of private space company Space Exploration Technologies Corp (SpaceX) said that world’s most powerful rocket the Falcon Heavy vehicle would be ready for lift off at the end of 2012. The rocket would be capable of taking men to the International Space Station and will also drop vehicles and astronauts on the moon. Musk said that it is likely that Falcon Heavy may even cruise to Mars and back.



Verizon iPhone 4 Owners Experience Fewer Dropped Calls Than AT&T, Shows Survey

A new survey has found that the owners of recently released Verizon iPhone 4 reported fewer dropped calls than the users of AT&T iPhone 4. It is to be noted that before the release of Verizon iPhone 4, AT&T was the sole carrier of the iPhone in the US. The survey was done by ChangeWave and the firm compares the AT&T iPhone 4 owners and Verizon iPhone 4 owners. According to the survey released on Tuesday, 4,068 respondents showed that 4.8 percent of AT&T iPhone 4 owners experienced a dropped call on their handset in the last three months, while dropped call was experienced by only 1.8 percent of Verizon subscribers.

Texas Instruments Acquires National Semiconductor For $6.5 Billion

In an apparent effort to expand its semiconductor chip business, Texas Instruments Inc., has decided to acquire Santa Clara, California-based National Semiconductor Corp. for $6.5 billion. The Dallas-based TI makes chips used in consumer electronics including cellphones, tablet computers and in industrial equipment and National Semiconductor also manufactures similar products. TI makes about 30,000 items and National Semiconductor makes about 12,000. "Quite often their chips can almost be identical, with slight differences, or fit next to each other in the same device," said technology analyst Doug Freedman at Gleacher & Co to Los Angeles Times. "It's really about getting more product differentiation."



Endeavour Launch Delayed to Avoid Space Traffic Jam

World’s premier space agency NASA has delayed the final launch of space shuttle Endeavour toward the International Space Station by at least 10 days and the shuttle will now take off on April 29. The launch has been delayed in order to avoid a space traffic jam with an unmanned Russian cargo ship, which is also scheduled to take off for the ISS later this month. NASA officials said that Endeavour is now targeted to blast off on its STS-134 flight on Friday, April 29 at 3:47 p.m. EDT (1947 GMT), while the Russian Progress cargo ship is currently scheduled to launch on April 27 and arrive at the station on April 29.



Untethered iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak Becomes Available On The Net

It seems that the iPhone Dev-Team just can’t sit and relax as the team has now released PwnageTool 4.2, which will bring untethered jailbreak support to iOS 4.3.1. The tool is software-based and it will allow the users to hack their iOS devices if they want to install third-party apps that haven’t been approved by Apple for distribution through its iTunes-based App Store. The PwnageTool update released on Sunday allows the users to complete the jailbreak without getting connected to their computer every time the restart their iOS device. The hack is compatible with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4 and Verizon iPhone 4, the first generation iPad, third and fourth generation iPod touches, and the second generation Apple TV.

Internet is abuzz with reports that the software giant has shown the new Windows 8 test build to PC manufacturers, who are trying to get a hang of the new operating system. 'Endeavor' Inspected For Possible Damages by NASA

Space Shuttle Endeavor was inspected by NASA engineers on Saturday for possible damages which could have happened due to storm and this week's severe weather. The NASA engineers will conduct a detailed inspection of the shuttle and its launch pad and it is expected that the inspection could put a major impact on Endeavor's next launch. NASA, world’s premier space agency today said that an initial inspection began on Friday but they failed to get a good look because the space shuttle's dress rehearsal was going on at the pad yesterday. If no damage will be detected by the team, the space shuttle will be launched as scheduled on April 19.



Android Leads in Smartphone Sales Rise

Smartphone shipments advanced 71 per cent in 2010 from the year before, as it's estimated that 302 million smartphones were shipped last year.
